Safdie Rabines Architects is pleased to announce the advancement of Eric Lindebak and Scott Maas to Partners, in recognition of their outstanding accomplishments and contributions to the firm, effective January, 2017. Founding Partners Taal Safdie and Ricardo Rabines, who established the firm in 1993, said in a joint statement: “Eric Lindebak and Scott Maas are talented and passionate leaders who have brought comprehensive expertise and vision to Safdie Rabines. We look forward to navigating into the future alongside them, and we are secure in their commitment to preserve and advance the firm’s portfolio, ethos, and commitment to design excellence and the environment.”
The Partners are also pleased to announce the promotion of Kevin Schiller to Principal. In addition, Alfonso Barragan, Clarke Forrest, Chie Ishii and Leo Rehkop have been named Associates. Authorities in design, technical, interior and urban planning, each reflects the firm’s dedication to a broad expertise and cohesive approach.
Eric Lindebak, R.A., Partner
Eric joined Safdie Rabines in 2001 as project manager of the Eleanor Roosevelt College at the UC San Diego. He has gone on to manage several high profile projects including the Robert Paine Scripps Forum at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the Structural and Materials Engineering Building at UC San Diego, Mercado del Barrio, and the Lincoln Acres Library and Community Room. Eric has played key roles on several infrastructure projects including San Diego’s Harbor Drive Pedestrian Bridge, and the recently completed Sellwood Bridge in Portland, Oregon. Eric leads the firm’s business development and outreach efforts.
Scott Maas, R.A., LEED AP, Partner
Since Joining Safdie Rabines in 2004, Scott has managed a diverse range of projects including master plans, commercial buildings and single-family residences. His experience includes a 6,200 square-foot private beachfront residence in Malibu, CA; the 202-acre North City, San Marcos master plan, and the renovation and addition to the historic Casa Madrona Hotel and Spa in Sausalito, CA. Scott oversees Safdie Rabines’ marketing and culture.
Kevin Schiller, Principal
With the firm since 2002, Kevin served as project manager on the 3-phase student housing project, The QUAD in the developing 202-acre North City, also master planned by Safdie Rabines. Delivering 3 phases in 3 years, Kevin is adept with phased construction, fast timelines and hard deadlines. Kevin supervised the recently completed the 197-unit, mixed-use Block C. Currently, he is the Project Manager of the Marine Conservation Facility, at Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
Leo Rehkop, R.A., NCARB, Associate
Leo came to San Diego to join the Safdie Rabines team in 2016, after 14 years at Pelli Clarke Pelli. His portfolio includes over 7 million square feet of theatric, higher education, hospitality, office mixed-use, and master planning experience. Currently Project Manager for the El Centro Courthouse and Job Captain for the Marine Conservation Facility at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, his primary role is leading the team in the collaborative process in promotion of a project’s quality. Leo understands how design and the complexities of construction can complement one another with a legible integrity.
Clarke Forrest, Associate
Since coming aboard in 2014, Clarke has played an integral role in the completion of the mixed-use Block C in the new, 202-acre sustainable North City neighborhood in San Marcos, also master planned by Safdie Rabines. Currently Job Captain of Merge CV in Carmel Valley, CA, Clarke is gearing up for the next SRA North City project, Block K, a multifamily housing structure.
Chie Ishii, Associate
Chie joined Safdie Rabines Interiors (SRI) in 2014 with an extensive knowledge of building and accessibility codes. Since then she has been a vital team member and Senior Designer, responsible for developing space plans, preparing construction and bid documents, and interfacing with the clients’ contractors and MEP Engineers. Her superior design skills have contributed to the success of projects including the recently completed Solar Turbines Sky Park in Kearney Mesa and renovation of Innovation Point in Carmel Mountain.
Alfonso Barrigan, Associate
Alfonso joined Safdie Rabines in 2014 after his graduation from NewSchool of Architecture and Design. Since then, he has worked on a diverse range of projects; most recently the renovation of a luxury hi-rise condominium residence in Coronado, CA, requiring extensive detailing and meticulous design. A passionate advocate for ongoing education, Alfonso will focus on a collaborative effort with other Associates and Principals to update SRA’s professional development programming. He is the recipient of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Henry Adams Medal and Certificate of Merit for Excellence in the Study of Architecture.
