GMDI Headquarters

A competition conceptual design, GMDI Headquarters celebrates the confluence of Guangzhou, China’s Riverfront Plaza Canal, the Northwest Gate of Baiyun Mountain, and Yuncheng East Road. These major influences inspired the formal massing and orientation of the tower. The new headquarters building responds to the site, creating a strong visual connection and dialogue between the water of the canal and the towering mountain beyond.
The Metro arrives at the base of the GMDI tower which serves as a vestibule to the magnificent mountains beyond. The building invites visitors through the atrium to the vegetated roof deck where there is a unique vantage point of the White Cloud Mountain. The spiraling form interlaces the park-like public space through the center of the tower, while celebrating views of the city and the mountains.
