Safdie Rabines Architects is pleased to share the promotion of our longtime team member Alfonso R. Barragán to Partner. Barragán will join Safdie Rabines Architects’ co-founders Taal Safdie and Ricardo Rabines, as well as partners Eric Lindebak and Brett Milkovich, in this leadership role beginning January 1, 2025.
Native of Sonora, México and raised in Tijuana, Barragán studied architecture in neighboring San Diego at NewSchool of Architecture & Design. He graduated Cum Laude in 2014 and received the American Institute of Architects’ School Medal and Certificate of Merit for Excellence in the Study of Architecture. Shortly after graduating, Barragán joined Safdie Rabines Architects and has since specialized in designing private residences within the San Diego region. Experienced in digital technologies, analog techniques, fabrication, and detailed model making, he lends a great amount of attention to detail and delivering high-quality designs.
Simultaneous to this announcement, ten additional Safdie Rabines Architects team members have been promoted to new positions – including team member Frederik Heuser to Principal, who joined the firm in 2020 and has led numerous housing and civic projects. Additional promotions include Derek Hatch, Rivan Karem, Mark Mulhair, Matthew Paola, and Corey Thomas to Associate Principal; and Kat Alvis, Mohamed Benchekroun, Amanda Rooney, and Jake Schmidt to Associate.
